Break Action

A break action rifle is one in which the action must be opened in order to reload the weapon.

California law requires that a semi-automatic rifle with a detachable magazine may not have certain features such as a pistol grip, collapsible stock or a flash hider. With a break action design or modification, the weapon can only be reloaded by opening the action, in which case the weapon cannot be fired.
